You want real change, vote out an incumbent

I renewed my "bitching rights" last Tuesday after Thing One's surgery.  I am an independent and vote for whoever I agree with, democrat or republican.  This year I decided to do something different.  If you were an incumbent, you did not get my vote.  I have reached the point where I really don't think there is a gnat's ass bit of difference between the two parties.  They both want to increase the size of government and get it more involved in my daily life.  One just may be doing it a little faster than the other one.

With the idea of making some people have to get a real job, I cast my vote.  There were several candidates that did not have opponents, so I wrote someone in.  I know they won't win, but maybe if enough people wrote someone in then some of these candidates might get a clue. No vote for incumbents, it didn't matter who was running against them.  There were a few races where the incumbent had either died or decided not to run, so there was a whole new crop.  In those cases, I voted for the one I most agreed.

I would like to say there was a lot of change, but I would be lying.  One of the Board of Supervisors was picked off, but that probably had more to do with his feelings about the community cannery than anything.  However, I will take it as a victory.  The biggest change came to the School Board.  One of the old guard was booted off and several new people will be taking seats on the board.  I take that as a huge victory.

I will give them two terms, assuming I like where they are taking us, and then will be voting against them.  Our founding fathers meant for political office to be a civic duty and not career/life style.
